What's a good baby shower gift that most don't receive, but could really use?

One of my best friends is expecting his first child. I want to get a gift for that is a nice, well put together gift, but is also something that not too many other people will be getting for them. I mean, honestly, how many rattles, blankets, and diaper bags will one baby need? I want to stray slightly away from the traditional gifts. I’m sure his family and his wife’s family will get the big items (crib, play pen, etc.). What are some things that those of you who already have children have received and didn’t need, and what are some things you wish you had received? I’ll take any suggestions! (I don’t have any kids! I’m clueless!)
