Product exchange question?

We received a baby monitor as a gift but actually wanted a different brand that has a better rating and costs only a few dollars more. We don’t have a receipt but know that it was purchased at Baby;s R us because of the bag.
Now, baby;s r us carries only 1.8inch hand monitor but we want 2.5 inch.
This item is unopened. Can we return it to a different store (Walmart) who carries the 2.5 inch ones or are they able to tell by a UPC code that it wasn’t bought there? Will they even care since its totally unopened?
