Ideas for a baby shower gift to a niece or nephew?

I am almost 16 years old. My brother is 31 (half-brother). His wife is pregnant and having a baby shower. I’m close to both of them and haven known my sister-in-law since I was two years old. I’m looking for a great gift to give the baby. The doctors seem to think it’s a girl but are not positive so I need mostly gender neutral gifts. I’d like to give a great, thoughtful gift to my future niece or nephew! =)

don’t you want to wait til you know the gender of the baby? it will be a whole lot easier choosing gifts when you known the gender. anywho, here are some great ideas for baby shower gifts: http://www.babylandgifts.com/shower-favors-c-17.html

I make custom diaper cakes and work WITH my clients to design and create a cake that is just for the baby they are celebrating. If that sounds like something you would be interested in….check out my site!!

    I would suggest a blanket…you make it!!
Baby will love a soft blankie and will grow up with it!! Plus it was made with love by you!!

My BFF made me one for my son and I creied as she is the LEAST crafty person I have ever met..but she learned to do it for him!!

There are really easy tied ones to make, all you need is the fabric which you can pick according to the room, or just one you like..(make sure you wash it first though).

Who cares if it’s not perfect, it was homemade for baby with love….they would probably love it and the thought behind it!!!

Get a large laundry basket and then buy a bunch of different baby products. Diapers, wipes, sleepers in neutral colors, bottles or stuff for breastfeeding, receiving blankets, cloth diapers to us a burp rags, lap pads and bed pads for leaky diapers. Find out if your brother and sister-in-law are registered somewhere, and buy small items to add to the laundry basket, wrap each gift and make the laundry basket look like an over sized gift basket.

I have been thinking about so many things that now I guess the best gift is…a gift card! I know it sounds a little "cold", but this is what I’d like to receive (I am not going to have a baby shower for my baby and I don’t have a baby registry list of items). I DON’T LIKE to receive CLOTHES for my babies. I rarely like them and they rarely are the right size. I’m sorry to say that but I ended up reselling almost all of them for few bucks. At least other children can enjoy them.

How ’bout a cute laundry basket (the decorative kind with a lid) filled with crib sheets, bath towels, blankets, clothes, etc. I’ve given that as a gift many times and people usually love it. Babies produce a ton of laundry, but most new parents don’t think about getting a laundry basket when they’re decorating the nursery. If you know what the baby’s room will look like, you could even decorate the basket with some ribbon or something to match.

i would like to suggest something that can be used for the baby but more helpful for the stressed parents. wait til after the shower. let me finish…… and see what they NEED that they didnt get. they may need a stroller, play pen, swing, diaper bag, bottles, diapers…… or even a bath tub for the baby. the baby would be using it and it also would help the parents who arent going to think of all the things that come in handy. good luck.

I highly recommend a sling. Either a Moby Wrap, or just about any brand of ring sling. If you can get her measurements/size, you could do a pouch sling too. Babywearing is great for bonding, wonderfully convinient (I never carried the carseat around, or used a stroller), you can nurse on the go, etc.

definately something they are going to use! clothes is good but try diapers or baby wipes or diaper bag if they don’t have any. or if you can’t make up your mind a gift card would be ok that way they can get whatever they know that they need.

They have something at walmart you can get to make the first baby handprints, thats kind of a more personal gift. but clothes and shoes are good as well, the present i use most is the bouncey my aunt bought me.

Are you at all creative? If so, why don’t you make something for the baby’s room. They sell cool wooden pieces in most craft stores that can be handpainted. For example, when my niece was born I bought wooden letters that spelled out her name and painted simple vines and flowers on them (trust me I am not artist but the flowers were tiny so just a dot will do!). The letters still hang in her room 6 years later. Obviously you cannot do that if you dont know the name, but maybe there is a wooden shape or shelf you could decorate.
