For those who breastfed… several questions.?
I tried breastfeeding with my first baby, and it only lasted two weeks before I couldn’t take the pain anymore and I stuck her on formula. I am going to give it another shot with the next baby and I don’t have my mom living near me to help this time! I’m wondering what I need to buy…
I am a stay at home mom, so I shouldn’t have to pump too much, if at all. I’m choosing a Lansinoh manual single breast pump because it got excellent reviews on the Wal Mart site.
I’m also getting this Playtex breast milk storage kit, which you pump straight into a baggie in a container, I think. I read the reviews and people said it was very helpful.
I’m buying nipple cream and breast pads, not a big deal about the brand and stuff so I’m not worried about that.
I may buy a Boppy pillow… I had one before but I don’t know if it was really helpful or not. It seemed to get in the way but I might give it another try.
Lastly, I’m getting this Playtex Drop Ins gift set. It’s got a few bags, bottles and nipples of different sizes.
I do have questions about the Drop Ins. With my first baby I just used regular bottles without plastic liners, so I don’t know much about these. I read that Playtex drop ins will also use Lansinoh milk storage bags, so there shouldn’t be a problem with me transferring breastmilk from the freezer to these bottles, right?
And what if breastfeeding doesn’t work out once again for me? If I get her on formula, it will have to be Similac Advance (the powder type) so how would I use a powdered formula with Drop In bottles? Like how would I mix the formula? These are probably dumb questions. Also, let’s say I pump a little bit and store it in the freezer. What do I do when I need to use it? Could I warm it in a bottle warmer? If I get the Playtex breast milk storage kit, will I even NEED Drop Ins Bottles? The kit itself sort of turns into a bottle.
And if I don’t need the Playtex Drop Ins bottles, should I just get regular bottles to have on hand in case I can’t breastfeed or I have a bad night breastfeeding? Please help. I’m driving myself nuts.
Okay thanks for all the advice. I’m honestly really afraid of trying it again, because the pain was so intense last time and my daughter wasn’t gaining enough weight at first. I’m going to try and be more vigilant. Thanks again for the web site recommendations. I wanted to know more about the bottles so that my husband can help me out and the baby can still get breast milk if I’m having a bad night…
